BYD is pushing the boundaries of electric performance with its latest innovation: the Yangwang U9 supercar. According to recent filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the upcoming Track Edition is set to deliver a stunning 3,000 horsepower, courtesy of four powerful electric motors.
This new version more than doubles the output of the original U9, which boasted 1,287 horsepower. Each wheel of the U9 Track Edition is equipped with a 744.57 hp motor, resulting in a total powertrain output of 2,977 hp. For context, even the Tesla Model Y Plaid, known for its speed, has a peak power of 1,020 hp.
To handle the increased power, BYD is enhancing the aerodynamics and upgrading the braking system of the U9. They’re incorporating advanced motor technology capable of exceeding 30,000 rpm, technology they’ve previously implemented in other models like the Han L EV and Tang L EV.
The supercar will feature 20-inch wheels, a sleek carbon fiber roof, and a rear wing. A rear diffuser with adjustable blades is also part of the package, with optional upgrades including a carbon-fiber front splitter and an electric rear wing.
In terms of performance, the U9 is expected to reach top speeds of 217 mph. It measures 195.5 inches long, 79.9 inches wide, and 51.6 inches high, with a wheelbase of 114.2 inches.
With these features, BYD is clearly setting new standards in the realm of electric vehicles, pushing innovation and performance to new heights.
