Bose has unveiled its Ultra Open earbuds, a fresh addition to the personal audio scene marked by their open-ear design. Unlike traditional in-ear models, these earbuds allow users to remain aware of their surroundings, ideal for those engaged in activities where environmental awareness is key, like sports. The concept of open-ear audio isn’t entirely new, as evidenced by their predecessors, the Sport Open earbuds released in 2021, and similar offerings from competitors such as Huawei with its FreeClip launched in a comparable time frame.
Bose Ultra Open Unveiled with User-Centric Design Aesthetics
The Ultra Open earbuds from Bose boast a design that prioritizes the listener’s connection with their environment. With no ear tips obstructing the ear canal, users can enjoy content without the discomfort that sometimes accompanies earbuds and headphones.
They offer a stylish look, departing from the typical TWS earphones’ silicon or memory foam tips, and instead use a soft silicone-coated flexible arm to rest comfortably on the skin. An elegant barrel design at the back of the ears houses a button to manage music and other functionalities. Fashion-forward and resembling jewelry, these earbuds provide a cuff-like fit designed for comfortable wear throughout the day.
Premium Audio Experience Minus ANC in Bose Ultra Open Earbuds
Although they skip Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), the Bose Ultra Open earbuds feature excellent audio technologies. The proprietary OpenAudio technology ensures a private listening experience, offering high-quality sound that seems directed exclusively to the wearer. Moreover, the Bose Immersive Audio feature enhances spatial perception by making it seem as though the sound is filling the room around the listener, with customizable modes for stillness or movement.
These earbuds come equipped with Snapdragon Sound technology and the Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codec, enabling high-fidelity audio streaming and consistent connectivity. In addition, they smartly adapt the volume to environmental noise levels. Other notable specifications include Google Fast Pair functionality, an IPX4 rating for water resistance, Bluetooth 5.3 support (without multipoint), and compatibility with a selection of Bose speakers and soundbars.
In terms of battery life, users can expect up to 7.5 hours of playback on a single charge, which reduces to 4.5 hours when using the Immersive Audio feature. With the inclusion of the charging case, total battery life is extended to 19.5 hours.
