BMW has pulled the covers off the iX3 50 xDrive, a next-generation electric SUV promising up to 500 miles on a single charge—making it the longest-range electric car currently available in the UK. A more affordable rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 is confirmed for 2026 and is expected to push past the 600-mile mark, setting an even higher bar for long-distance EV travel.
The new iX3 launches as part of BMW’s Neue Klasse family, a clean-sheet rethink of design, engineering, and software. The look is cleaner and more minimal than previous generations, with details like hidden window seals, pop-out door handles, slim lighting signatures, and an optional illuminated kidney grille. Sized similarly to today’s X3 at around 4.8 meters long and 1.6 meters tall, it rides on 20-inch wheels with glossy black accents for a sharp, modern stance.
Charging performance is a headline act. Thanks to an 800-volt electrical architecture, the iX3 50 xDrive can add up to 257 miles of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a high-power charger. The system also supports bi-directional power, allowing the SUV to run tools and devices and even feed electricity back into a home setup. Under the floor, BMW uses new cylindrical battery cells that charge up to 30% faster and deliver around 20% higher energy density than older packs, boosting both range and efficiency.
Performance remains firmly in the premium-SUV zone. The iX3 50 xDrive produces a combined 463 bhp and 645 Nm of torque, good for a 0–62 mph sprint in 4.9 seconds. Three trims will be offered: Standard, M Sport with a sportier body kit and ambient lighting, and the range-topping M Sport Pro. In the UK, pricing starts at £58,755 for the Standard model, with first deliveries expected in March 2026.
