Skystone Games and Mi’pu’mi Games have locked in the release date for Black Jacket, a fresh twist on the roguelite deckbuilder formula that reimagines blackjack as a high-stakes escape attempt from hell.
Black Jacket launches May 12 for Windows PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.
At its core, Black Jacket takes the familiar tension of blackjack and pushes it into roguelite territory, where every run becomes a gamble for survival. You’ll face off against restless souls trapped in a hellish afterlife, playing for their coin. That money isn’t just for bragging rights, either—you’ll need plenty of it to bribe the ferryman and earn your way out. The catch is that this isn’t standard blackjack, and playing it safe won’t get you far.
Instead, Black Jacket is all about breaking the rules in your favor. You can stack your deck with powerful cards, twist the table to your advantage, and build wild strategies that open up near-infinite combo potential across repeated runs. Each attempt offers new ways to experiment, adapt, and push your luck further than traditional card games ever allow.
The game’s cards aren’t just numbers—they’re tools that can actively rewrite how a match plays out. You can force opponents into overcommitting, raise or lower card values to sabotage their hand, peek into decks to plan ahead, and even swap cards directly with an enemy. As you dig deeper, you’ll uncover secret combinations hidden within your deck, encouraging creative play and smart risk-taking.
Progression also comes through collecting Artifacts, Card Suits, and Curses, each adding new layers to your build. These upgrades and modifiers can give you the edge you need, but they also shape the challenges you’ll face, making each run feel distinct.
Beyond the mechanics, Black Jacket leans into atmosphere and character. You’re not just battling anonymous opponents—you’re learning who they are. Encounters reveal stories over time, and opponents are represented only through their hands, encouraging you to study their habits, recognize their playstyles, and anticipate the curses they bring to the table. The more you understand them, the closer you get to unraveling the cycle you’re trapped in.
For players who love deckbuilders, roguelites, and strategy games with a clever hook, Black Jacket is shaping up to be a unique blend of gambling tension and combo-driven experimentation—where the goal isn’t just to win a hand, but to outsmart the afterlife itself.
