Beeper, the versatile messaging app that aggregates all your chat services into one seamless interface, is relaunching with a focus on enhanced security. This updated version eliminates the need for its own cloud services, offering direct connections to your messaging networks for heightened privacy. Beeper is also unveiling premium features that include options for more accounts, as well as tools for power users like reminders, scheduling messages, incognito mode, and AI transcriptions of voice notes.
Under Automattic’s ownership, following a $125 million acquisition in 2024, Beeper has integrated nearly completely with Texts.com, a previous $50 million purchase by Automattic. Together, they boast a robust, 30-person team, offering support for numerous messaging platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and many more. For Mac users, there’s even a way to access iMessage, though this has faced restrictions in the past.
The primary aim is to simplify and secure the way we manage multiple messaging apps. Previously reliant on Beeper Cloud, users can now opt for an on-device connection, enhancing end-to-end encryption and privacy. This approach bypasses Beeper Cloud and connects directly to your messaging service, preserving official app privacy standards.
Beeper is keen to maintain good relations with messaging networks by accommodating their business models, such as displaying ads from Telegram. This aligns with EU regulations that promote interoperable messaging platforms, potentially making Beeper a viable solution.
With the relaunch, Beeper introduces a $9.99 per month premium tier called Beeper Plus. This includes access to ten messaging services, message scheduling, chat reminders, and other features like incognito mode and multiple accounts per network. Subscribers can also customize their app experience with a unique icon. For businesses or social media managers, the Beeper Plus Plus plan offers unlimited accounts for $49.99 per month, with annual discounts available.
The integration with Texts.com is almost complete, paving the way for future enhancements such as incorporating features from Automattic’s latest acquisition, personal CRM app Clay. Once fully integrated, Clay will enhance Beeper by providing even richer interaction and data capabilities without losing its standalone utility.
Beeper, with millions of users, is gradually transitioning those on Texts.com to its on-device model, promising to retire Beeper Cloud once reliability is confirmed. Looking ahead, Beeper envisions offering data-sharing capabilities with a focus on transparency and user consent. Options such as connecting with AI services like Claude or ChatGPT to summarize messages could become a reality, all while maintaining stringent privacy standards and ensuring users have control over their data.
