Audio-Technica has raised the bar for high-end listening with the ATH-ADX7000, a new flagship open-back headphone built for audiophiles who want spacious, highly detailed sound without compromise. Handcrafted in Machida, Tokyo, and built around the company’s latest HXDT driver technology, this model aims to deliver a natural presentation with powerful, controlled bass, clear, revealing mids, and airy, non-fatiguing highs across a wide soundstage.
At the heart of the ATH-ADX7000 are 58 mm integrated drivers that receive unusually precise assembly. The diaphragm, baffle plate, magnet, and voice coil are aligned with tight tolerances to minimize distortion and enhance coherence from top to bottom. The driver units sit in an aluminum housing with a honeycomb-punched design to optimize airflow to the diaphragm, improving transient response, detail retrieval, and perceived openness. A lightweight magnesium frame helps keep vibrations at bay, while Core Mount Technology is employed to balance airflow and reduce unwanted resonance. A high-impedance coil is used for speed and dynamic headroom, so micro and macro details hit with conviction.
Unlike many open-backs that can sound light in the low end, the tuning here is aimed at delivering bass that’s full, weighty, and tightly controlled, while preserving the clarity and articulation in the midrange that makes instruments and vocals sound lifelike. The treble is shaped for air and extension without tipping into harshness, maintaining a sense of space and intimacy across a generous soundstage.
Comfort and customization also get attention. Each pair ships with two premium, interchangeable earpads: high-density velvet for balanced tonality with extra control over resonances, and Alcantara for a touch more bass depth and smoother treble. You also get a compact hard carrying case and two detachable, nylon-wrapped 3-meter cables using the brand’s A2DC connectors—one balanced cable terminating in a 4-pin XLR and one unbalanced cable with a 6.3 mm gold-plated plug—giving you plug-and-play flexibility with both studio gear and home hi-fi setups. Every unit is handmade in Japan and finished with a laser-etched serial number.
Pricing and availability: the ATH-ADX7000 goes on sale in the US and UK on October 31, priced at $3,499 and £3,000 respectively.
