AT&T is preparing to shake up the wireless market with a new customizable plan option designed for customers who want more control over what they pay each month. The company’s new “Build-a-Plan” wireless bundle is expected to launch on May 27, 2026, and it introduces one of the lowest starting prices among comparable offerings from major U.S. carriers.
The idea behind AT&T Build-a-Plan is simple: instead of forcing customers into a fixed wireless package, AT&T will let users choose the features that best fit their needs and budget. For people who do not use much mobile data, this could be an affordable way to stay connected without paying for extras they rarely use.
The entry-level option starts at just $15 per month and includes unlimited talk, unlimited text, and 1GB of mobile data. That makes it a budget-friendly wireless plan for customers who primarily use Wi-Fi, send messages, make calls, and only need a small amount of data while away from home.
For users who need more data but still want to keep costs under control, AT&T will also offer a 15GB plan with unlimited talk and text for $25 per month. This option may appeal to customers who stream occasionally, browse the web, use navigation apps, check email, and stay active on social media without needing a full unlimited data package.
Customers who want unlimited data can customize the base plan by adding unlimited data with SD streaming for an extra $20 per month. This gives users more flexibility to build a wireless plan around their personal habits instead of paying for a pre-set bundle that may not match their lifestyle.
AT&T says the goal is to give customers more freedom to adjust their wireless service month by month. Jenifer Robertson of AT&T described the plan as a benefit for customers who want both affordability and access to the company’s wireless network.
“By giving our customers the freedom to tailor their wireless service month to month, we are giving them an affordable way to connect to America’s largest wireless network and still control their budget. It is a win-win,” Robertson said.
The new AT&T Build-a-Plan offering reflects a broader shift in the wireless industry, where many customers are looking for cheaper phone plans, flexible data options, and fewer long-term commitments. With household budgets under pressure, customizable mobile plans could become increasingly attractive to users who want reliable service without overspending.
There are some important limits to note. AT&T Build-a-Plan will be available only to customers who bring their own unlocked, eSIM-capable phone. The plan is also limited to one line per account, which means it is aimed more at individual users than families or multi-line households.
Even with those restrictions, AT&T’s new customizable wireless plan could be a strong option for budget-conscious customers, light data users, students, seniors, and anyone who wants a more flexible alternative to traditional phone plans. With a $15 starting price, unlimited calls and texts, and the ability to add more data when needed, Build-a-Plan could become one of AT&T’s most appealing value-focused wireless offers.
