Asus Zenbook A16 Gets a More Affordable Snapdragon Model With OLED Display and Lighter Design
Asus has introduced a cheaper version of its 16-inch Zenbook A16, giving buyers a more affordable way to get a large-screen ultraportable laptop powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon hardware. The new model arrives in an Iceland Grey finish and is currently appearing in Europe, with pricing that makes it significantly less expensive than the higher-end Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme version launched earlier this year.
The latest Zenbook A16 configuration is listed in Italy with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X X1-26-100 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage for €1,399, which is roughly $1,335. That places it about €700 below the premium Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme X2E-94-100 model, representing a price cut of around 33%.
For users who need more storage, Asus is also offering a version with the same Snapdragon X X1-26-100 chip and 16 GB of RAM, but with 1 TB of storage for €1,499, or about $1,429. Asus’ global product information also suggests that models featuring the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 processor are expected to join the lineup later in 2026.
The Zenbook A16 is designed for users who want a large display without carrying a bulky laptop. Interestingly, this cheaper Snapdragon-powered version is even lighter than the more expensive model. It weighs just 1.1 kg, making it 100 g lighter than the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme configuration. That makes it an attractive option for students, remote workers, travelers, and anyone who wants a portable 16-inch laptop for everyday productivity.
However, the lower price does come with a few trade-offs. The more affordable Zenbook A16 features Wi-Fi 6E rather than newer wireless standards, and it uses a 1200p OLED display with a 60 Hz refresh rate and 300 nits peak brightness. While that is not as advanced as the display found on some premium laptops, OLED technology should still deliver strong contrast, deep blacks, and vibrant colors for streaming, web browsing, document work, and general entertainment.
The launch comes as Asus showcases several new devices at Computex 2026 in Taipei, including multiple Zenbook 14 models with OLED panels and Ceraluminum covers. While those compact laptops are aimed at buyers who prioritize portability, the Zenbook A16 targets users who want more screen space while still keeping the overall weight impressively low.
At the moment, the cheaper Zenbook A16 appears to be limited to select European markets, with Italy among the first to receive it. A wider international release has not yet been confirmed, but the appearance of multiple configurations on Asus’ global product pages suggests that broader availability could follow later in the year.
With its lower price, lightweight body, OLED display, and Snapdragon-based platform, the new Asus Zenbook A16 could become a compelling choice for buyers looking for a 16-inch laptop that balances portability, battery-friendly performance, and everyday usability without stepping into premium pricing territory.
