The anticipation builds for the upcoming Asus ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming devices, expected to launch soon. While Microsoft remains mum on the official pricing, leaks hint that these handhelds might be priced at €599 and €899, respectively, according to a listing on a partner store’s website. This follows earlier speculation by leaker eXtas1s, adding credibility to these numbers.
Despite the buzz, pricing for the US market remains uncertain. eXtas1s has suggested $499 and $799 could be likely, although others warn that tariffs might push these figures higher. Although Microsoft announced a broad Holiday 2025 release, some insiders, like Jez Corden, speculate a potential launch in October.
The new Xbox handhelds, revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, won’t be console replacements but rather additions to the current Asus ROG Ally lineup. Featuring a 7-inch 1080p/120Hz display, they’ve opted against OLED, focusing on a design that enhances ergonomics with an Xbox-style control scheme.
However, the appeal of these systems has been met with skepticism. Former Microsoft Executive Laura Fryer sees them as a shift away from traditional hardware, noting the lack of exclusive Xbox titles to drive sales. Microsoft’s strategy includes a unified interface allowing access to multiple marketplaces, aiming to attract a broader audience.
The pricing for the ROG Xbox Ally models could be pivotal, particularly when considering competition like the possibly more affordable Nintendo Switch 2, which promises a robust library of AAA titles, or options like the Steam Deck in the growing handheld gaming sector.
