ASUS Introduces AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOS Update with “105W TDP” Mode for AMD 9700X & 9600X on X670E, B650E & B650 Motherboards

ASUS has become the first motherboard manufacturer to introduce the AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOS, designed for its X670E, B650E, and B650 motherboards. This update is a game-changer as it introduces support for a 105W TDP mode for the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs, substantially boosting their performance.

The AGESA 1.2.0.2 BETA BIOS, now rolling out, is the official AMD-certified release intended to unleash the full potential of these processors. The previous version, AGESA 1.2.0.1a, launched just ten days ago, set the stage, but this new firmware update is set to take things to the next level.

The news came from enthusiast and overclocker SoonHo Jeong, also known as SAFEDISK, who shared detailed insights on the ASUS ROG Forum. The Beta BIOS 2401/3040 will upgrade the AGESA to ComboAM5 1202, promising to enhance overall system performance.

The update is available for a variety of ASUS motherboard series, including the ProArt, TUF Gaming, ROG Strix, and ROG Crosshair. Noticeably absent are the Prime series and all X670 chipset motherboards, indicating that AMD’s focus for now is on the X670E chipset.

With this BIOS update, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X CPUs can ramp up their thermal design power (TDP) to 105W, significantly up from the previous 65W. In preliminary tests, these processors were already consuming more than 80W with the earlier BIOS, showcasing the potential that this new update unlocks.

In productivity benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 9700X saw up to a 13% performance boost, while the Ryzen 5 9600X showed more modest improvements. Other motherboard manufacturers are expected to follow suit with their own AGESA 1.2.0.2 updates to ensure their systems can also harness the full power of these advanced CPUs. Additionally, the forthcoming 800 series motherboards will come with this exciting update built in.

By staying ahead with this BIOS upgrade, ASUS is enabling users to fully leverage the latest capabilities of their AMD processors, ensuring top-notch performance and paving the way for future advancements.
