A recent leak suggests that Apple is considering a massive upgrade to a 200MP camera for future iPhone models. The tip from a Weibo account, Digital Chat Station, hints that Apple is currently testing a 200MP sensor, potentially set to debut in upcoming iPhones. While specific details about the sensor remain scarce, it’s anticipated that this enhancement will first appear on the ‘Pro’ models, eventually becoming standard across the lineup.
Switching to a 200MP sensor may significantly enhance zoom capabilities and improve photo cropping quality. Apple’s rumored iPhone Air, which is expected to feature a single-lens setup akin to the iPhone 16e, could particularly benefit from such a camera. This enhancement would enable higher resolution images and videos, along with improved digital zoom, spanning from 2x to 5x, without sacrificing quality.
Although no timetable is confirmed for when Apple will release these 200MP cameras, higher-end models are likely candidates for the initial rollout.
