In the competitive world of processors, Apple’s A17 Pro chipset has demonstrated impressive performance by narrowly surpassing the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite in a recent GravityMark GPU benchmark test. These two chipsets are at the heart of some of the latest devices, with the A17 Pro powering the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Snapdragon X Elite being the driver for several new Windows 11 notebooks.
The head-to-head comparison between these processors was facilitated at a fixed resolution of 2560 x 1440 to maintain a uniform testing environment. Despite the Snapdragon X Elite-equipped laptops featuring more memory than the iPhone 15 Pro models, which come with 8GB of RAM, the Apple A17 Pro managed to inch ahead in the performance race.
When it comes to the numbers, the A17 Pro achieved a score of 3,501, while the Snapdragon X Elite followed closely with a score of 3,421. The difference percentage in performance was calculated to be a mere 2.34%. This translated to the A17 Pro completing the GravityMark GPU test with an average of 20.9 frames per second (FPS), and the Snapdragon X Elite clocking in at 20.5FPS.
These results may seem astounding, as seeing a smartphone chipset not only compete with but outpace a notebook-class chip is rarely observed. It is important to note, however, that the victory margin is so small that it might be considered statistically insignificant by some, or even potentially attributed to a less than ideal optimization of GravityMark for the Snapdragon X Elite.
What makes these results even more significant is that the Snapdragon X Elite has shown to be a robust competitor in other benchmark tests, often surpassing various chipset rivals, including Apple’s M3. While this could indicate the GravityMark GPU test results as an anomaly, it certainly sets a precedent for further comparison and evaluation of these two industry-leading processors.
The latest benchmark results between Apple’s A17 Pro and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite could evolve into an interesting narrative if similar trends are observed in future assessments. For those invested in the developments within the processor market, staying updated on how these chips perform against one another will be essential in understanding the advancements and capabilities of the latest technology in smartphones and notebooks.
