Apple sells more Macs in Q1 2024

Apple Witnesses Growth in PC Market with 4.8 Million Macs Shipped in Q1 2024

Apple has experienced a notable increase in its presence within the PC market, having shipped 4.8 million Macs in the first quarter of 2024. This growth aligns with the introduction of their advanced M3 series, including the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chipsets. The launch of new MacBook Pro models towards the end of the previous year appears to have played a significant role in bolstering sales numbers, elevating the company’s market share.

The latest estimates showcase Apple’s growth in the PC market, securing a 14.6 percent increase in Mac shipments from one quarter to the next. In Q1 2024, Apple managed to grab an 8.1 percent slice of the global market, delivering 4.8 million units and compared to the 4.2 million Macs shipped in the last quarter of 2023, where they held a 7.1 percent stake. Notably, Apple still lags behind leading competitors like Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Despite this, the International Data Corporation (IDC) highlighted a resurgence in the overall PC market. After two years of declining figures, global PC shipments began seeing upward momentum with close to 60 million units distributed in the current quarter. This refresh in the market can be credited to both a rebound from historically low shipment numbers in the previous year, as well as a return to pre-pandemic shipment levels comparable to early 2019.

It is worth considering that while the high-end MacBook Pros with the latest M3 chips could have contributed to the shipment rise, their more premium price point may limit Apple’s volume success. To address this, Apple recently launched new iterations of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air featuring the M3 chip. These more affordable models offer enhanced features, such as an attractive starting price and dual NAND flash memory for performance gains, set to potentially drive sales in the following quarter.

Additionally, there are talks of Apple beginning work on the M4 MacBook Pro, though it is unlikely to hit the market this year, as the company is yet to launch the M3 Ultra. The M3 Ultra is the anticipated successor to the M2 Ultra, functioning as Apple’s workstation-grade System on a Chip (SoC).

As the tech giant continues to innovate and roll out competitive products in the PC landscape, it remains to be seen how these developments will further influence its market share and position among its rivals.
