Apple Vision Pro presence in various retail stores is slowly being reduced

Apple Vision Pro Headset Takes a Backseat as Focus Shifts to M4 Macs in Retail Spaces

The latest buzz around Apple’s tech offerings is the introduction of the new M4 Macs, which are set to be launched across various retail stores worldwide. This launch brings exciting enhancements, most notably in their chipsets, promising users an upgraded experience. However, in light of this launch, Apple seems to be re-evaluating the presence of its Vision Pro headset in stores.

Currently, the Vision Pro hasn’t garnered as much interest as Apple had hoped. Production appears to be slowing, with reports suggesting it could be phased out by the end of 2024. Originally, Apple had dedicated two tables within its U.S. retail stores for the Vision Pro—one for demo purposes and another for display models. This strategy was aimed at allowing customers to experience the device before making the significant investment of $3,499.

Despite these efforts, the Vision Pro struggled to hit 100,000 shipments in the U.S. While Tim Cook maintains that the Vision Pro wasn’t intended for wide-reaching appeal, it’s clear that its high price point and limited app offerings have impacted global sales potential.

In a strategic shift, Apple is now set to reduce the retail floor space for the Vision Pro, consolidating its demo and display units onto a single table as they prepare to present the new M4 Macs. Surprisingly, this change won’t make way for a more affordable version of the headset, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests any budget-friendly alternatives are unlikely to appear before 2027. Instead, we can anticipate the release of a Vision Pro successor, projected for 2025.

Apple’s decision reflects the challenges of introducing revolutionary tech products to the market. While early adoption can be slow, groundbreaking initiatives often pave the way for more accessible future models, broadening technological appeal. Given Apple’s track record, the Vision Pro could be paving the path for the next wave of innovative, and hopefully more affordable, AR headsets.
