Apple’s first OLED MacBook Pro is no longer a distant rumor. Fresh reports suggest Samsung Display has already started production preparations for new tandem OLED panels designed specifically for Apple’s next-generation flagship laptops, signaling that the long-awaited upgrade is moving closer to reality.
A well-known leaker claims the manufacturing line meant to supply these advanced MacBook Pro displays is now up and running. While that sounds like Apple could be ahead of schedule on the display side, it doesn’t necessarily mean the OLED MacBook Pro will launch earlier than expected. Current expectations still point to a debut in late 2026 or early 2027, likely alongside Apple’s M6 Pro and M6 Max chips.
The display change may also come with one of the biggest design shifts the MacBook Pro has seen in years. Alongside the move to tandem OLED technology, the next MacBook Pro is rumored to gain a touchscreen for the first time. Apple is also said to be working on a thinner and lighter chassis, slimmer bezels, and a redesigned front camera cutout—potentially switching from the familiar notch to a punch-hole design.
And the MacBook Pro may only be the start of Apple’s broader OLED push. Industry chatter indicates that over the next three years Apple plans to transition four additional product lines from LCD to OLED. The iPad mini is expected to make the jump to OLED later this year, followed by the iPad Air and iMac in 2027. The MacBook Air could be the last of the group to switch, with an OLED upgrade rumored for 2028.
Apple already relies heavily on OLED across several major devices, including the iPhone, iPad Pro, Apple Watch, and its mixed reality headset. The appeal is clear: OLED displays are widely known for delivering deeper blacks, faster response times, and improved contrast. They can also enable higher HDR peak brightness in supported content, which is especially valuable for creators, movie watching, and high-end laptop displays where visual quality is a key selling point.
If these timelines hold, Apple is heading toward a future where OLED becomes a confirmation of “premium” across far more of its lineup—starting with the MacBook Pro’s expected tandem OLED debut.
