Apple looking into using ChatGPT or Claude for Siri

Apple Explores AI Partnerships with Anthropic and OpenAI to Enhance Siri’s Capabilities

Siri has long faced criticism for lagging behind its rivals in terms of contextual awareness and natural language understanding. Despite Apple Intelligence’s promise of a more personalized and smarter AI assistant, Siri hasn’t yet caught up with modern expectations. However, change may be on the horizon. According to recent reports, Apple is in talks with OpenAI and Anthropic for a potential partnership to enhance Siri’s capabilities.

Siri has often struggled with multi-step conversations and complex, open-ended questions, partly due to its rigid command structure. This has placed it behind other advanced language learning models. Apple has been slow to evolve Siri, but a Bloomberg report suggests that the company is now seriously exploring integration with OpenAI and Anthropic’s sophisticated AI models.

Currently, Apple is assessing the AI models from both OpenAI and Anthropic, focusing on their potential to operate on Private Cloud Compute servers. While no final decision has been made about replacing Siri’s existing technology, internal testing indicates that Anthropic’s models may be the best fit. However, negotiations are still ongoing, with Anthropic reportedly seeking a multi-billion dollar agreement.

Faced with high demands from Anthropic, Apple might explore other options to ensure the best possible integration for a more advanced Siri experience. The company has been developing its own large language model, yet Siri’s struggles have been evident, especially after Apple promised new capabilities without delivering them on time.

Criticism arose in March when Apple announced potential delays in its AI updates for Siri until 2026. In response to backlash, Apple adjusted its plans and now aims to introduce these features with the iOS 26 update. Collaborating with OpenAI or Anthropic could allow Apple to continue building its own AI model while fulfilling its promises for a smarter Siri.
