Apple has upgraded its A19 Pro with an 8-core CPU, but the leak turned out to be a fake

Apple A19 Pro Leak: 8-Core CPU Rumors Debunked, Multi-Core Performance Compared to M3

With just over a month to go before Apple unveils its latest lineup of four new iPhone 17 models, all eyes are on the much-anticipated A19 Pro chipset. This high-performance chip is set to be a highlight of Apple’s offerings, utilizing TSMC’s advanced third-generation 3nm process. While this promises incremental improvements over the already impressive A18 Pro in terms of performance and efficiency, the air is still rife with speculation as benchmark leaks remain elusive.

Recently, a supposed benchmark result surfaced, sparking interest with its mention of an 8-core CPU, deviating from the traditional 6-core configuration. However, these results have been flagged as fake, as no similar data can be found in Geekbench 6’s database.

These speculative numbers suggested performance cores clocking at 4.49GHz, achieving a single-core score of 4,309 and a multi-core score of 11,604. Such a performance would nearly rival Apple’s M3 chip. Despite being fictitious, these results offer a glimpse into the potential capabilities of the A19 Pro. They certainly stand apart from earlier, less realistic rumors that claimed the A19 Pro would outperform the A18 Pro and the M4 chip by an incredible 80% in multi-core performance.

Historically, Apple has maintained tight control over leaks regarding its A-series chips, and typically, performance figures do not surface until officially announced. This restraint is part of Apple’s broader strategy.

This year, the focus for the A19 and A19 Pro appears to be on enhancing efficiency, aiming to extend battery life for the iPhone 17 lineup rather than pushing raw performance boundaries. While significant performance leaps over the A18 series aren’t expected solely due to the new lithography, there’s growing excitement for the future potential of the A20 and A20 Pro, which are rumored to harness TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm technology.
