Anthropic Expands App Connectivity for Claude

Anthropic has introduced a fresh and innovative way to enhance app and tool connectivity with its AI chatbot, Claude. Notably, it’s rolled out a new feature called Integrations, alongside an expanded deep research capability known as Advanced Research. Available in beta for subscribers of Claude Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, and soon for Pro users, these features aim to refine how Claude engages with the web and enterprise accounts.

Moreover, Anthropic has increased the rate limits for Claude Code, its AI-powered coding tool, specifically for Max customers. These advancements are part of Anthropic’s strategy to compete with other AI leaders like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Although the company has ambitious plans to hit $34.5 billion in revenue by 2027, its current annual revenue is around $1.4 billion as of March.

The Integrations feature leverages Anthropic’s MCP protocol, enabling AI models to access data from various sources, including business tools, content repositories, and app development environments. This allows developers to create and host app servers that enhance Claude’s capabilities, making it easier to connect these servers to Claude.

Connecting tools to Claude gives it a deep understanding of your work, encompassing project histories, task statuses, and organizational knowledge, and enabling it to take actions efficiently. Anthropic has partnered with companies like Atlassian, Zapier, Cloudflare, Intercom, Square, and PayPal to expand Claude’s abilities. For instance, the Atlassian Integration allows Claude to summarize and create pages in Atlassian’s Confluence software, while the Zapier Integration connects to app automation workflows.

Advanced Research, another significant update, allows Claude to pull from “hundreds” of internal and external sources, providing comprehensive reports on topics within five to 45 minutes. This feature utilizes Claude’s newly expanded connectors, searching across Integrations and, for those using the Claude Desktop app on macOS or Windows, MCP-connected local systems.

With the introduction of more complex research abilities, users can activate the Research button to have Claude break down requests into smaller parts, exploring each deeply before compiling a detailed report. Claude provides clear citations for any information sourced, linking back to the original material.

This move reflects a growing trend of deep research tools in chatbots, driven by reasoning AI models skilled in thinking through problems and fact-checking—a crucial element in conducting thorough research. Anthropic’s previous research tool was fast but lacked depth, which the new “reasoning” model aims to rectify by allowing more time for detailed analysis.
