American Campuses Welcome Robot Delivery Services

In an exciting leap forward for on-campus convenience, robotic delivery service Avride is set to expand its operations across numerous college campuses in the United States, thanks to a newly inked partnership with Grubhub. Initially deploying 100 delivery robots at Ohio State University, Avride is now poised to broaden its reach nationwide.

Founded in 2017, Avride has established itself as a pioneer in the field of autonomous delivery, even marking a significant milestone with the introduction of the first driverless taxi in Europe. During a recent announcement, Avride’s CEO, Dmitry Polishchuk, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, noting, “Our robots have already proven their value in campus environments, delivering convenience and delight to students.”

These delivery robots, which became particularly popular during the pandemic due to their no-contact delivery capabilities, are equipped with spacious compartments perfect for transporting everything from meals like wings and pizza to beverages, including beer to students aged 21 and over. Each unit is distinctively adorned with a large, customizable LED panel to cater to the identity of different college campuses.

Operating within the confines of a campus offers an excellent opportunity for Avride to rigorously test and refine their delivery technology. With campuses providing a variety of conditions—ranging from the bustling rush of students between classes to challenging weather conditions like rain or snow—Avride can gather valuable insights to optimize their robot’s performance and sensor capabilities.

Grubhub’s ambitious goal to provide specialized delivery services tailored to each campus across the United States aligns seamlessly with Avride’s innovative and practical approach. Together, they look to redefine convenience in the college ecosystem with a futuristic touch.
