The newest AMD Threadripper 9000 series processors are turning heads with impressive benchmarking results, and the spotlight is currently on the Threadripper Pro 9995WX. This powerhouse recently scored a noteworthy 30,170 points in the multi-threaded test on Geekbench, creating quite a buzz.
AMD’s Threadripper lineup has consistently dominated the charts in multi-threaded CPU performance. The Pro series, in particular, shines due to its high core count, delivering superior multi-core scores. While the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX holds the title as the swiftest Zen 4-based workstation processor, Intel continues to lead the Geekbench rankings with the Core i7 13700K and other high-end models.
Although Geekbench seems to favor Intel in multi-threaded tests, it’s important to note that this doesn’t always equate to faster real-world performance compared to AMD’s high-core Threadrippers. The emergence of the Threadripper 9000 series, dubbed Shimada Peak, is heating up the competition. The Threadripper Pro 9995WX, boasting 96 cores and 192 threads, is challenging its predecessor, the Threadripper Pro 7995WX. While the latter holds a slightly higher score of 30,579 on the charts, the 9995WX is theoretically faster due to its Zen 5 architecture and enhanced clock speeds, offering a 300 MHz boost over its predecessor while maintaining the same 350W TDP.
Despite the single-core score needing improvement, this latest chip shows promise. Notably, the Ryzen Threadripper 9980X recently set records in PassMark, edging out the 7995WX. This underlines Shimada Peak’s growing influence in the workstation domain. While the Geekbench score might not break records, it’s crucial to remember that platform results can vary significantly.
Currently, the Threadripper Pro 9000 WX series is available for enterprise customers, with the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9995WX listed at $12,793—a notable jump from the $9,999 price of its predecessor. However, expectations are that this price will eventually settle around the $10,000 mark, though it may take some time to adjust.
