AMD Quietly Adds Ryzen 7 4700LE to Its AM4 Processor Lineup for OEM Gaming PCs
AMD has quietly expanded its long-running AM4 processor family with another Zen 2-based chip, the Ryzen 7 4700LE. The new CPU appears to be aimed strictly at OEM system builders rather than retail buyers, giving prebuilt PC makers another affordable 8-core option for budget and mid-range desktop systems.
The Ryzen 7 4700LE was recently found listed on AMD’s official processor database, with a launch date shown as March 25, 2026. AMD did not make a public announcement for the chip, which is not unusual for OEM-focused processors. These models often appear quietly and are sold only inside prebuilt desktops rather than as boxed CPUs on store shelves.
Despite using the Ryzen 4000 naming scheme, the Ryzen 7 4700LE is based on AMD’s Zen 2 Renoir design for the AM4 platform. At first glance, the name may suggest that it is similar to the Ryzen 7 4700G, an APU that launched years earlier with Radeon Vega integrated graphics. However, the Ryzen 7 4700LE is different in one important way: it does not include integrated graphics.
That means buyers will need a dedicated graphics card if they purchase a system powered by this processor. For gaming PCs, that is not necessarily a drawback, since most prebuilt gaming desktops already come with a discrete GPU.
In terms of specifications, the AMD Ryzen 7 4700LE features 8 cores and 16 threads, making it a capable option for multitasking, gaming, streaming, and everyday productivity. It has a base clock of 3.6 GHz and can boost up to 4.2 GHz, putting it in line with several older Zen 2 desktop chips that remain useful for mainstream workloads.
The CPU includes a total of 12 MB of combined L2 and L3 cache. While 8 cores usually place a processor in a strong mainstream category, the relatively small cache size positions the Ryzen 7 4700LE more toward entry-level or value-focused systems compared with newer Ryzen desktop processors.
AMD lists the chip with a 65W default TDP, which should make it easy for OEMs to cool inside compact or cost-conscious desktop builds. The maximum operating temperature is rated at 95°C, matching typical expectations for Ryzen desktop processors.
The most important detail for consumers is availability. The Ryzen 7 4700LE is marked as “OEM only,” meaning AMD is not selling it as a standalone retail processor. Instead, it will be available through prebuilt desktop systems assembled by PC manufacturers and system integrators.
One such prebuilt gaming PC has already appeared in the U.S. market, pairing the Ryzen 7 4700LE with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card. That configuration suggests AMD’s new chip is being used for affordable gaming desktops where an 8-core CPU can still offer solid performance without increasing system cost too much.
The quiet arrival of the Ryzen 7 4700LE also shows that AMD is still supporting and extending the AM4 ecosystem, even years after the platform first became popular. AM4 remains one of AMD’s most successful desktop platforms, thanks to its broad CPU compatibility and long upgrade path.
For buyers looking at budget prebuilt PCs, the Ryzen 7 4700LE could be a practical processor if priced correctly. It will not compete with the latest Zen 4 or Zen 5 Ryzen chips in raw performance, but its 8-core, 16-thread design should still be more than enough for 1080p gaming, office work, content consumption, and general multitasking when paired with a suitable graphics card.
Because it lacks integrated graphics and is limited to OEM systems, the Ryzen 7 4700LE is not a processor that most DIY PC builders will be able to buy directly. Still, its launch highlights AMD’s strategy of keeping older Ryzen architectures alive in targeted markets, especially where affordable, reliable CPU options are still in demand.
