Amazon’s New High-Rise Tower in Berlin: Edge East Side Completes Construction

Berlin welcomes a new landmark to its skyline with the completion of the Edge East Side tower, a significant development as it stands out as the city’s tallest multi-story building. The 37-story building, soaring 460 feet, is set to be the new headquarters for Amazon in Berlin.

The Edge East Side has been developed by Edge and has recently been handed over to Pimco Prime Real Estate, signaling its official completion. The high-rise is poised to become a bustling hub for Amazon, which expects to employ more than 3400 individuals in the tower. Outfitted with 65,000 square meters of office space within a total area of 80,500 square meters, the tower will provide ample room for Amazon staff.

Strategically placed next to the Warschauer Straße underground station, with a streetcar station conveniently located nearby, the Edge East Side ensures optimal accessibility for Amazon employees through public transport. The tower’s proximity to a shopping center and its placement in a vibrant nightlife district add to its prime location, though traveling by car might not be the best option, given the high potential for traffic congestion.

The structure’s unique design has stirred discussions among Berlin’s residents, and there have been minor protests centered around concerns for Amazon staff rights. Protestors aimed to challenge Amazon’s establishment on Warschauer Straße, but it appears their efforts have not impeded the company’s move.

Currently, there has been no formal statement from Amazon regarding the completion of their new Berlin tower. October 2019 reports from Tagesspiegel had previously indicated that Amazon’s employee relocation to the new site was scheduled for 2024, denoting that the construction project has been finished as planned.

With Edge East Side’s completion, Amazon is set to leave a substantial footprint on Berlin’s urban environment, creating job opportunities and shaping the daily dynamics at Berlin’s east side. The high-rise is a testament to the city’s ongoing development and embodies the intersection of modern technology and urban growth.
