Airbnb’s New Private Car Pickup Service Is About to Transform Your Arrival Experience

Airbnb is making arrivals smoother for travelers by expanding its Services feature with a new private car pick-up option. Rolling out across 125 cities worldwide, the update lets guests book a car to pick them up and take them directly to their Airbnb stay—helping remove the hassle of figuring out transportation after a long flight.

To power the new car pick-up category, Airbnb is partnering with transportation provider Welcome Pickups. The service is available in popular travel destinations such as Paris, Bali, and Mexico City, with more cities expected to be added over time.

According to Airbnb, the company has already tested the concept through a pilot program in parts of Europe and Asia. The pilot attracted thousands of users and earned an average rating of 4.96, signaling strong satisfaction from travelers who want dependable, pre-arranged airport and city transfers.

The feature is designed to feel like a seamless extension of the booking process. After reserving a stay in a city where private car pick-ups are offered, guests will see an option in the Trips tab in the Airbnb app to schedule their ride to the listing. Travelers can also review reservation details and adjust plans directly in the app, making it easier to handle common trip changes like delayed flight times or revised arrival schedules.

Airbnb’s leadership says the goal is to improve the overall guest experience from the moment someone lands. Dave Stephenson, Airbnb’s chief business officer, said the company’s Services are meant to enhance a stay, and that the Welcome Pickups partnership helps deliver that value right at arrival.

This move fits into Airbnb’s broader push to become more than a place to book accommodations. The company introduced its services category last summer alongside an expansion into experiences, initially offering 10 service types across eight countries. Those early services included options such as private chefs, catering, prepared meals, photography, massages, spa treatments, personal training, and beauty services like hair, nails, and makeup.

Airbnb has continued adding travel-adjacent conveniences since then. In November, it announced a U.S. partnership with Instacart that allows guests in select cities to order groceries before and during their stay—another step toward making the platform useful beyond the booking itself.

With private car transfers now joining the lineup, Airbnb is moving closer to offering a full suite of travel services that can cover more parts of a trip. The company has also been testing hotel room bookings, signaling a wider strategy to serve travelers regardless of whether they choose a vacation rental or a hotel stay.

On its Q4 2025 earnings call, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky pointed to the large opportunity in hotels, noting that expanding into that space could help Airbnb play a role in a traveler’s journey no matter what kind of stay they prefer.
