AI Server Boom: Global Shipment Outlook for 2025–2026

Global AI Server Shipments Expected to Surpass 2.5 Million Units in 2026 as Demand Accelerates

The global AI server market is heading for another major growth year in 2026, driven by rapid progress in large language models, expanding enterprise automation, and the rising adoption of agentic AI systems. As businesses look for faster, smarter, and more autonomous AI tools, demand for advanced data center infrastructure is increasing at a remarkable pace.

Major cloud service providers in North America, emerging AI-focused cloud companies, and leading artificial intelligence research labs are expected to significantly expand their AI data center investments throughout 2026. This wave of infrastructure spending is being fueled by the need to support more powerful AI models, larger training workloads, and real-time AI applications across industries.

According to market estimates, worldwide AI server shipments are projected to exceed 2.5 million units in 2026. Of that total, around 2.37 million units are expected to be high-end AI servers equipped with high-bandwidth memory, also known as HBM. This would represent a 56% increase compared with 2025.

For the first time, high-end AI servers are forecast to account for more than 15% of total global server shipments. This marks an important shift in the server industry, showing how artificial intelligence is becoming one of the biggest drivers of data center hardware demand.

GPUs are expected to remain the dominant accelerator type in high-end AI servers. In 2026, GPU-based systems are projected to make up nearly 60% of high-end AI server shipments. Stronger supply momentum and improved availability of Nvidia’s GB300 NVL72 platform are expected to help support this growth, especially compared with the previous generation.

Outside of GPU-based systems, TPU-powered servers are expected to remain the largest category among non-GPU AI servers. However, their share of shipments may decline compared with 2025. This is partly due to a high shipment base in the previous year, as well as tighter supply conditions expected in 2026.

The continued expansion of AI infrastructure highlights the growing importance of specialized computing hardware. Training and running advanced AI models require enormous processing power, fast memory, and efficient server architecture. As AI applications become more complex, companies are investing heavily in systems designed specifically for machine learning, generative AI, inference, and autonomous AI agents.

Agentic AI is emerging as one of the key demand drivers. Unlike traditional AI tools that respond to simple prompts, agentic AI systems can plan, make decisions, execute tasks, and interact with software tools more independently. This opens the door to broader business automation, from customer support and coding to logistics, analytics, finance, and operations.

As these systems become more widely adopted, the computing requirements behind them will continue to grow. Cloud providers and AI labs need massive server capacity to train frontier models, deploy AI services at scale, and support millions of users and enterprise customers.

The 2026 AI server market will likely be shaped by several major factors, including accelerator supply, HBM availability, data center power capacity, customer demand from cloud platforms, and competition among chip suppliers. Companies that can secure advanced components and deliver complete AI server solutions are expected to benefit most from this rapid market expansion.

Overall, 2026 is set to be a defining year for AI data center growth. With global AI server shipments expected to pass 2.5 million units and high-end AI systems taking a larger share of the total server market, artificial intelligence is becoming a central force in the future of computing infrastructure.
