Advanced AMD Instinct Models Boast Significant HBM3E Memory Upgrades, Introducing CDNA4-Enhanced MI355X

The evolution of AMD’s Instinct series is reshaping the landscape of computational accelerators, as the company shifts its focus from traditional GPUs towards AI accelerators with impressive capabilities.

The CDNA3-based MI325X stands out in this new lineup. While it doesn’t house any CPU cores like its counterpart, the MI300A, it remains a powerful general-purpose compute solution. Unfortunately, early ambitions for the MI325X to boast 288GB of HBM3e memory have been tempered due to supply challenges with the 36GB HBM stacks. Instead, it will feature 256GB of memory distributed across eight HBM stacks, retaining an impressive memory bandwidth of 6 TB/s. This beast of a “GPU” will need up to 1000W TDP to operate.

Anticipation builds for the newly unveiled MI355X, set to be a game-changer in the computing world. It will introduce the upgraded CDNA4 architecture, complete with enhanced 36GB HBM stacks, culminating in a total of 288GB of memory and an even more significant 8 TB/s memory bandwidth. Expected to hit the market in the latter half of 2025, it’s set to provide fierce competition against NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPUs. The MI355X will also support cutting-edge data types like FP4 and FP6, showcasing a leap in technological advancement with its 3nm manufacturing node.

Looking further into the future, AMD is planning the release of its CDNA-Next based MI400 in 2026. While specific details are sparse at the moment, this upcoming model will likely continue the trend of extraordinary performance upgrades, underscoring AMD’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of computational technology.
