After disappearing from the smartphone scene for over half a decade, Acer is gearing up to re-enter the mobile market with a pair of new Android smartphones set to debut in India. These entry-level devices will carry the Acerpure brand, known largely for its home appliances, marking a fresh chapter for the Taiwanese tech giant.
While Acer has not officially announced a launch date, leaks have given us a sneak peek into what to expect. Shared by tech insider Sudhanshu Ambhore, the offerings include the Acerone Liquid S162E4 and the Liquid S272E4. For those nostalgic about Acer’s previous smartphone endeavors, the “Liquid” moniker will certainly sound familiar, harking back to models like the Liquid X2 from 2016.
The Acerone Liquid S162E4 is set to feature a 6.5-inch display with HD+ resolution, enhanced by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for durability. While the refresh rate isn’t specified, it’s likely sticking to a standard 60Hz. Powering this phone is the MediaTek Helio P35 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Camera-wise, it boasts a 16MP primary sensor alongside a basic 0.08MP secondary camera, and a 5MP selfie shooter. This model will be introduced with Android 14 straight out of the box, weighing in at 179 grams with dimensions of 165.4 x 76.9 x 8.95 mm.
In contrast, the Acerone Liquid S272E4 offers a slightly larger 6.7-inch screen, with similar resolutions and protective features. Upgrades include a MediaTek Helio G36 chipset, a 20MP primary rear camera with a 0.3MP secondary addition, and the same 5MP front camera as its counterpart. It keeps a 5,000mAh battery and will also run on Android 14. Situated just a bit heavier, this device tips the scales at 200 grams and measures 171 x 78.6 x 8.9 mm.
Visuals from the leak reveal both models feature displays with waterdrop notches and noticeable lower bezels. The S162E4 will be offered in a light blue shade, and the S272E4 in a darker blue hue.
Targeted at the budget market, these smartphones promise to be quite affordable. Currently, there’s no information regarding availability outside India. While their specifications suggest they’re targeted primarily at cost-conscious consumers, the return of Acer to the smartphone realm is an interesting development.
