Aaeon has unveiled a strikingly compact mini PC, the PICO-MTU4-SEMI, designed primarily for industrial use. Despite its intricate name, its petite size is the standout feature. This Meteor Lake-powered system is packed with extensive connectivity options, catering perfectly to its target audience.
At its heart, the PICO-MTU4-SEMI is fueled by the Intel Core Ultra 5 125U processor, featuring 12 cores and 14 threads. This setup includes 2 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, and an additional 2 efficiency cores in a low-power island. Benchmark comparisons suggest that the 125U offers multi-core performance akin to Apple’s M2.
The mini PC’s compact chassis, measuring 108 x 95 x 43 mm, naturally lacks space for discrete graphics—though this is unlikely a setback for its industrial users. It is passively cooled, ensuring silent operation, though the impact on sustained performance remains to be seen through comprehensive testing.
Storage needs are met by an M.2 2280 slot, while memory can be expanded to 32 GB of single-channel LPDDR5. Connectivity features include dual LAN ports (2.5G and 1G), optional GPIO connector, dual COM ports, HDMI 1.4, and dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports. Wireless options are supported via the M.2 2230 slot. Pricing and availability details are yet to be announced.
For those seeking a consumer alternative, the Minisforum M1 Pro with a similar Core Ultra 5 125H is a viable option, priced at around $383.90.
