Final Fantasy XIV marked its 12th anniversary on August 27, 2025, and it’s celebrating in style with a major crossover: Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds is teaming up with Square Enix’s long-running MMO for a special event launching in early October 2025.
Revealed during Opening Night Live at Gamescom on August 19, the collaboration brings familiar Monster Hunter elements like Palicos into Eorzea, while Final Fantasy favorites such as Chocobos and Cactuars will make appearances in Monster Hunter Wilds. Director Naoki Yoshida explained at Gamescom that the crossover is being woven into FFXIV’s lore through its interdimensional rift concept, ensuring both worlds connect in a way that feels authentic to the story.
Yoshida also shared how the partnership came together. The FFXIV and Monster Hunter teams have known each other for years, tracing their relationship back to the PSP era and titles like Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. According to Yoshida, the current collaboration really took shape after conversations at last year’s Gamescom, where informal chats turned into a concrete plan.
What to expect from the event:
– Palicos arriving in Eorzea through a story that explains their presence in FFXIV’s world
– Iconic Final Fantasy mounts and creatures, including Chocobos and Cactuars, appearing in Monster Hunter Wilds
– Crossover content designed to respect the lore and tone of both franchises
Beyond the event itself, Yoshida also touched on the importance of community understanding in today’s gaming landscape. With recent reports of harassment aimed at developers over performance concerns, he emphasized that creators are people first and called for a healthier dialogue between players and development teams to keep the industry thriving.
With twelve years of momentum behind it and a high-profile crossover on the horizon, Final Fantasy XIV shows no signs of slowing down. Keep an eye out for more details as the October event draws near.
