8BitDo’s Premium Xbox Wireless Controller Hits Another Delay

8BitDo Ultimate 3E Controller for Xbox appears to face a last-minute shipping delay

The long-awaited 8BitDo Ultimate 3E Controller for Xbox may not be arriving as soon as expected. After months of anticipation, the premium wireless Xbox controller was originally expected to launch on August 31, 2026. However, the manufacturer’s online store now lists a new shipping date of September 10, 2026, suggesting a short delay for buyers waiting to get their hands on the device.

The controller was first revealed at CES 2026 and later received a confirmed pre-order date in May. At the time, 8BitDo said pre-orders would open on May 26, with availability planned for the end of August. That schedule now appears to have changed quietly, with no major public announcement from the company so far.

The situation is slightly confusing because availability varies depending on where shoppers look. While the official store now shows a September 10 shipping date, the product listing on Amazon initially continued to show an August 31 release date for several hours. It later changed to “temporarily out of stock,” although some customers may still be able to add the controller to their cart.

Adding to the uncertainty, a few early buyers appear to have already received the controller. One customer reportedly shared that their unit arrived before the expected release date, suggesting that at least some stock may have shipped ahead of the broader rollout.

The 8BitDo Ultimate 3E Controller for Xbox is priced at $149.99 in the United States. In the United Kingdom, it is expected to cost £124.99, though the UK release appears to be scheduled later, with availability currently listed for October 23.

For Xbox players, the Ultimate 3E is one of 8BitDo’s most feature-packed controllers yet. It supports wireless play on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC through a 2.4GHz dongle. Players can also use it with a USB cable for wired gaming. Bluetooth support is included for Android and Apple devices, making it a versatile option for gamers who play across multiple platforms.

The controller includes TMR joysticks, which are designed to improve precision and durability. It also comes with Hall Effect triggers and trigger stops, giving players more control in racing games, shooters, and other fast-paced titles. Dual back buttons add extra input options, while the R4 and L4 shoulder buttons can be remapped for a more personalized setup.

Customization is a major part of the Ultimate 3E’s appeal. The controller features a removable faceplate, a replaceable metal D-pad, and a swappable ABXY button module. These additions make it more flexible than a standard Xbox controller and should appeal to players who like to fine-tune their hardware.

Other notable features include a 3.5mm audio jack, six-axis motion control, a 1,000Hz polling rate, and a 1,400mAh battery rated for up to 18 hours of gameplay. The package also includes a wireless charging dock, which should make it easier to keep the controller ready between sessions.

While the delay appears to be relatively short, the lack of an official update may frustrate customers who expected the 8BitDo Ultimate 3E Controller for Xbox to be available at the end of August. For now, the safest expectation is that broader shipping will begin around September 10, unless the company provides a new update.
