8BitDo Arcade Controller Pro Debuts With Built-In Display, Custom Switches, and Switch 2 Support
8BitDo is expanding its arcade controller lineup with a new premium model built for fighting game fans and competitive players. The newly announced 8BitDo Arcade Controller Pro brings a more compact design, a built-in display, customizable controls, and support for Windows, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The new model follows the original 8BitDo Arcade Controller, which launched last year and later received several variants and accessories, including an Xbox version, a Transparent Purple Signature edition, an upgrade kit, and a limited EVO 2026 edition. With the Arcade Controller Pro, 8BitDo is clearly aiming for a more advanced experience, especially for players who want deeper customization without relying entirely on companion software.
One of the biggest design changes is the controller’s tighter button layout. 8BitDo says the smaller, closely placed buttons are designed to sit within more natural reach, making inputs feel faster and more comfortable during long gaming sessions. The Arcade Controller Pro also uses improved button caps and introduces a revised layout compared to the standard model.
The controller includes five programmable buttons labeled P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5. These buttons come with lock caps, giving players more control over how the controller behaves during gameplay or tournaments. By comparison, the standard 8BitDo Arcade Controller includes four programmable buttons, while the Xbox version includes two.
The standout feature is the built-in 1.47-inch display. This small screen shows battery life and allows users to adjust key controller settings directly from the device. Through the display, players can view button presses in real time, remap controls, adjust SOCD settings, and customize RGB lighting.
SOCD, or Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions, is especially important for fighting game players because it controls how the controller handles opposite directional inputs, such as left and right being pressed at the same time. Having this setting available directly on the controller could make the Arcade Controller Pro more convenient for serious players who frequently adjust their setup.
The 8BitDo Arcade Controller Pro also keeps several physical controls from the earlier model. It includes knobs for switching between Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless modes, turning Tournament Lock on or off, adjusting volume, and changing display settings. A dedicated capture button is positioned on the left side for quick screenshots or video capture when supported.
Another clever feature is dynamic input labeling. The illuminated button labels automatically change depending on whether the controller is being used with a Nintendo Switch layout or a PC layout. This should make switching between platforms easier and reduce confusion during gameplay.
Customization is also a major focus. 8BitDo has designed the controller so users can easily lift the glass faceplate to access the internal components. There is also a dedicated compartment for storing extra switches, making it easier to modify the controller without complicated disassembly.
The Arcade Controller Pro uses hot-swappable 8BitDo Core green low-profile linear mechanical switches, developed in collaboration with Kailh. Since the switches are hot-swappable, users can replace them without soldering, giving enthusiasts more freedom to fine-tune the feel of their buttons.
For wired play, the controller includes a cable lock system that keeps the USB-C cable secure during use. This is a useful addition for competitive gaming, where accidental cable disconnections can be a major problem. The controller also features dual USB-C ports, adding flexibility for different setups.
Battery life is rated at up to 15 hours thanks to a 3,000mAh battery. The controller can be used wirelessly through Bluetooth or 2.4GHz connectivity, while wired USB-C support is available for players who prefer the lowest possible latency.
Comfort has also been considered. The Arcade Controller Pro includes a removable magnetic wrist rest, allowing players to attach it for longer sessions or remove it when they want a more compact setup.
The 8BitDo Arcade Controller Pro will be available in two color options: White and N Edition. Pricing has not yet been announced, but pre-orders are scheduled to begin in September 2026. The controller will also be shown at EVO 2026, giving fighting game fans an early look at 8BitDo’s latest premium arcade controller.
With its built-in display, compact button layout, hot-swappable switches, customizable controls, and support for Nintendo Switch 2 and Windows, the 8BitDo Arcade Controller Pro looks like a strong option for players who want a flexible arcade-style controller built for both casual and competitive gaming.
