Zoom’s chief executive, Eric Yuan, says AI assistants are on track to shrink the traditional workweek. Speaking at a major industry event, Yuan outlined how Zoom is weaving artificial intelligence into its platform, including a digital twin feature that lets an AI avatar speak on your behalf. He even used his own avatar during an investor earnings call to show how far the technology has come and how it could reshape communication.
Yuan’s focus is singular. When asked what he’s investing in, his answer was clear: AI, AI, and AI. He described multi-hour strategy sessions centered on intelligent tools that can take work off people’s plates and accelerate decision-making.
The vision goes beyond AI as a meeting stand-in. Yuan imagined a near future where two executives negotiating a contract could first send their AI twins to collaborate on the details, drastically reducing the time humans need to spend on live calls. He also highlighted everyday productivity wins, like an assistant that combs through your inbox, surfaces what matters, and drafts responses, as well as AI that boosts Zoom’s broader toolkit—online whiteboards, collaborative documents, and more.
Today, people still have to manually juggle tools and tasks to get work done. Yuan believes that’s about to change. As AI takes on the repetitive and pre-work that slows teams down, the result could be a shorter workweek. His target over the next five years: three or four days instead of five.
It’s a bold bet on the future of work—one powered by AI companions that handle the heavy lifting so people can focus on decisions, creativity, and impact.
