YouTuber Achieves Bloodborne Playability on Steam Deck

A YouTuber has managed to run Bloodborne on the Steam Deck using an emulator. Although the current build is far from fully playable, improvements are expected soon as modders and developers work on refining the version.

Recently, developers behind the ShadPS4 PlayStation 4 emulator achieved a significant milestone by getting Bloodborne to function on the emulator. Despite its current performance struggles, the game is inching closer to having a playable build. The YouTuber, known as Deck Wizard, has showcased Bloodborne running on the Steam Deck.

In the video, Bloodborne’s starting area, The Hunter’s Dream, appears mostly intact, maintaining a steady 30 FPS similar to its original PlayStation 4 version. However, upon moving to the game’s first area, Old Yharnam, performance issues become apparent. The introductory section with the first werewolf encounter is notably problematic, with missing assets making it nearly unplayable.

Despite these challenges, the modding community is diligently working to introduce numerous fixes for the emulated version of Bloodborne. For instance, the ‘Bloodborne FPS Boost (and other fixes)’ mod, created by Fromsoftserve, provides many enhancements, albeit limited to specific game areas. There are various other mods available on platforms like Nexusmods that are worth exploring for additional improvements.
