Xreal Aura Debuts With OLED Visuals in an Ultra-Light 95g Design

Xreal Aura Smart Glasses Pack OLED Displays Into a Lightweight 95-Gram Design

Xreal Aura is shaping up to be an exciting new entry in the smart glasses market, combining transparent lenses, OLED display technology, and spatial computing features in a surprisingly lightweight body. Designed for users who want digital content without being cut off from the real world, these AR glasses aim to bring videos, apps, emails, and virtual workspaces directly into the wearer’s field of view.

One of the key advantages of the Xreal Aura is its transparent lens design. Unlike traditional VR headsets that fully block your surroundings, these glasses allow users to stay aware of what is happening around them. For times when distractions need to be reduced, the lenses can be dimmed, making the on-screen content easier to see and helping create a more focused viewing experience.

The built-in displays are designed to support a wide range of everyday tasks. Users can watch videos, check emails, open apps, and even create a multi-monitor setup without needing physical screens. Xreal says the Aura can support up to five virtual monitors, which can be freely positioned in the surrounding space. This could make the glasses especially appealing for productivity, remote work, travel, and entertainment.

Control is handled through voice commands and hand tracking, giving users a more natural way to interact with the interface. To make hand tracking possible, Xreal has equipped the glasses with two cameras. This setup allows users to navigate content without always relying on external controllers, making the experience feel more intuitive.

Despite including display hardware, the Xreal Aura weighs just 95 grams. That makes it relatively light for smart glasses with this level of functionality. However, there is a trade-off. To keep the glasses themselves lightweight, Xreal has moved the mainboard and battery into a separate puck. This puck connects to the glasses using a cable and contains a 34.8 Wh battery.

The external puck also houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite ARM chip, which powers the smart glasses experience. Depending on the configuration, the device can run either Android XR or Meta Horizon OS, giving it access to advanced mixed reality and app-based features.

Connectivity is another important part of the Xreal Aura package. The glasses support Wi-Fi 6E for fast wireless performance and Bluetooth 5.3 for accessories such as keyboards and controllers. They also include a GPS module, a fingerprint sensor, and four microphones, which should help with navigation, security, voice control, and communication.

With its lightweight design, transparent OLED displays, virtual monitor support, and spatial computing features, Xreal Aura appears to be aimed at users who want a portable smart glasses experience for both work and entertainment. The separate puck may not appeal to everyone, but it helps keep the glasses comfortable while still providing the processing power and battery capacity needed for advanced AR features.
