Asus ROG Xreal R1 AR glasses are set to arrive this summer, bringing a major upgrade for gamers who want a big-screen experience without being tied to a traditional monitor or TV.
First revealed at CES 2026, the ROG Xreal R1 was developed through a collaboration between Asus and Xreal. The glasses are now moving closer to launch, with pre-orders scheduled to begin on May 17 in Europe and North America. A final retail price has not yet been confirmed.
The biggest highlight of the ROG Xreal R1 is its display technology. Asus says these are the world’s first AR glasses with a 240Hz refresh rate, making them especially interesting for fast-paced gaming. The glasses use Micro-OLED panels and offer an ultra-low 0.01ms response time, which should help deliver smooth visuals with minimal motion blur.
The ROG Xreal R1 can create a virtual screen measuring up to 171 inches, giving users the feeling of playing on a massive display while wearing a lightweight pair of glasses. The device also features a 57-degree field of view, native 3DoF support, head tracking, and Auto Transparency, which should make the viewing experience feel more natural and flexible.
Compatibility is one of the main selling points. The Asus ROG Xreal R1 is designed to work with gaming handhelds, PCs, and consoles. That includes the ROG Ally series, making it a potentially strong accessory for players who want a more immersive portable gaming setup. It may also appeal to console and PC users who want a private large-screen display without needing extra space.
Asus has also shown the glasses working with the ROG Control Dock, but it remains unclear whether the dock will be included in the box or sold separately. Other key details, including brightness, weight, dimensions, and full accessory support, have not yet been revealed.
The ROG Xreal R1 will enter a growing market for gaming-focused AR glasses. One of its closest rivals is Lenovo’s Legion Glasses Gen 2, which offer a 120Hz refresh rate and can display a virtual screen up to 126 inches. Lenovo’s glasses work with devices that support USB-C video output and are priced at $249.99. Since the ROG Xreal R1 offers a higher refresh rate and a larger virtual display, it would not be surprising if Asus positions it at a higher price.
With pre-orders opening on May 17 and a summer release planned, the Asus ROG Xreal R1 could become one of the most exciting AR gaming accessories of 2026. For players using handheld gaming PCs, consoles, or desktop setups, these glasses promise a high-refresh-rate virtual display that could turn almost anywhere into a personal gaming theater.
