Xiaomi has expanded its entry-level smartphone lineup in India with two new budget-friendly launches: the Redmi A7 and the Redmi A7 Pro 4G. Both phones aim to deliver a smooth everyday experience at a low price, led by big screens with a fast 120Hz refresh rate, large batteries, and practical features that many buyers still want in 2026, like a headphone jack and microSD expansion.
Display is one of the headline upgrades on both models. The Redmi A7 comes with a 6.88-inch IPS LCD, while the Redmi A7 Pro 4G bumps that slightly to a 6.9-inch panel with up to 800 nits peak brightness. In this price segment, the 120Hz refresh rate is a standout, promising noticeably smoother scrolling and a more fluid feel during general use.
Powering both smartphones is the Unisoc T7250 chipset paired with LPDDR4X memory. The Redmi A7 ships with 3GB RAM, and the Redmi A7 Pro 4G increases that to 4GB. Storage is set at 64GB using UFS 2.2, and Xiaomi is keeping things flexible with a dedicated microSD card slot that supports expansion up to 2TB—useful for anyone storing lots of photos, videos, or offline content.
Battery life is another major selling point, especially on the Pro model. The Redmi A7 packs a 5,200mAh battery, while the Redmi A7 Pro 4G steps up to a hefty 6,300mAh cell, which should appeal to people who prioritize long endurance over everything else. Both phones support 15W wired charging and also include 7.5W reverse wired charging, giving you the option to top up other devices with a cable when needed.
Xiaomi hasn’t skipped the basics either. You get an IP52 rating for light dust and splash resistance, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for quick unlocking, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio without adapters.
Camera hardware is simple, matching expectations for an entry-level phone. Both models include a single 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. It’s a no-frills setup designed for casual photos, video calls, and everyday snapshots rather than advanced photography.
The biggest difference—and the one likely to drive the most attention from budget buyers—is software support. The Redmi A7 runs Android 15-based HyperOS 2 with a promise of 2 years of OS updates and 4 years of security patches. The Redmi A7 Pro 4G goes further, shipping with Android 16-based HyperOS 3 and offering a notably long commitment for this segment: 4 years of OS updates and 6 years of security updates. For shoppers looking to keep a low-cost phone for several years, that long update window makes the Pro model particularly attractive.
Pricing in India starts at INR 10,499 (around $112) for the Redmi A7 in Black and Sky Blue. The Redmi A7 Pro 4G is priced at INR 11,499 (around $123) and will be available in Black and Sunset Orange. Sales begin April 24.
