In the fast-evolving world of foldable smartphones, Xiaomi is continuously making headlines by pushing the boundaries of innovation. Well known for its cutting-edge technology and remarkable iterations, Xiaomi’s latest move has once again outshined its competition. Not long ago, the tech buzz revolved around Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 4, celebrated for its record-breaking thinness among foldable devices. Now, Xiaomi is ready to shake the industry again with the global launch of its Mix Flip, aiming to set new benchmarks and intensify competition.
The Mix Flip marks Xiaomi’s first foray into clamshell foldable phones, unveiled initially in China, and has now made its highly anticipated debut on the global stage. This launch signifies Xiaomi’s commitment to diversifying its foldable lineup and keeps users excited for innovative devices beyond the conventional models.
Previously exclusive to Europe last month, the Mix Flip is now available worldwide. It features an impressive 6.86-inch OLED foldable display paired with a 4.01-inch cover screen. The display dazzles with peak brightness reaching 3,000 nits, ensuring exceptional visibility even under direct sunlight, and 1,600 nits in high-brightness mode for day-to-day usage.
Emphasizing functionality, Xiaomi has designed the cover screen to support keyboard typing and allow app usage for popular applications such as YouTube and Google Maps. This feature promises enhanced convenience for users on the go. Under the hood, the Mix Flip houses the formidable Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and boasts a robust 4,780mAh battery, which is notably larger than the average foldable phone battery. Impressively, the battery can endure up to 1,600 charging cycles before it reduces to 80% capacity, highlighting its longevity.
Although the Mix Flip excels with 67W wired charging, it does lack certain features like wireless charging and an IP rating for water resistance—areas where competitors like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Motorola Razr Plus 2024 have an edge.
Continuing its legacy of high camera quality, Xiaomi equips the Mix Flip with a Leica-branded camera system, featuring a 50MP primary camera and an innovative 50MP 2x telephoto lens. This setup allows for exceptional zoom capabilities, offering greater clarity and detail compared to rivals. The telephoto lens distinguishes itself with a nine-centimeter minimum focusing distance, ideal for macro photography enthusiasts. Additionally, the 32MP front camera ensures clear and vivid video calls.
While the Mix Flip impresses with its larger battery and enhanced camera zoom, it does fall short in the areas of wireless charging and water resistance, which are provided by some of its competitors. Nevertheless, Xiaomi positions the Mix Flip competitively in the market with a base model price of €1,299 (approximately $1,447). The device comes packed with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, available in sleek black and eye-catching purple options.
Xiaomi’s latest entry into the clamshell foldable market showcases its dedication to innovation and consumer-focused features, promising a dynamic user experience that keeps tech enthusiasts eager for what comes next from this trailblazing company.
