Xiaomi has introduced a new ultra-short USB-C cable in China designed with a specific job in mind: making reverse charging simpler and more convenient when you want to power up another gadget using your smartphone.
Unlike standard charging cables built mainly for plugging into a wall charger, this one is aimed at device-to-device charging. At just 16cm (about 6.29 inches), it’s compact enough to toss into a pocket, small pouch, or everyday carry kit without turning into a tangled mess. Xiaomi also highlights durability, pairing a woven outer layer with what it describes as a high-quality inner wire core to better handle daily wear and frequent travel.
A key feature is the built-in smart chip, which is designed to recognize connected devices and handle power negotiation automatically. In practical terms, this should help the cable work smoothly across different types of USB-C devices while managing charging requirements more efficiently.
Even though it’s positioned as a reverse charging cable, it can still function as a regular USB-C charging cable. With a 6A rating, Xiaomi claims it can support up to 120W fast charging when used with a compatible power source and device. That means it’s not just for topping up small accessories in a pinch—it could also serve as a high-speed option when you need fast charging with the right charger and phone.
Compatibility is another selling point. Xiaomi says the cable supports multiple charging protocols, including PD 3.0, which helps it work with a wide range of gear. That includes laptops, tablets, power banks, and smaller devices such as wireless earbuds—useful if you want one short cable that can cover several charging scenarios.
Pricing is especially aggressive. The cable is currently listed in China for CNY 9.9 (around $1.44). Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed an international release yet, but it may show up in other markets later, potentially alongside a future Poco smartphone launch.
