Xiaomi Unveils a Leica-Exclusive Xiaomi 17 Ultra in Sleek New Official Videos

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its next big camera-focused flagship, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and the company is already teasing what photography fans can expect. The phone is set to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and will feature a Leica-enhanced camera system, reinforcing Xiaomi’s push to compete at the top of the smartphone photography market.

Ahead of the official debut, Xiaomi has now showcased a special Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica edition designed to feel even more like a dedicated camera. The standout upgrade is something the brand calls the “Master Zoom Ring.” Unlike typical camera bumps that are purely visual design statements, this version adds a physical rotary ring that wraps around the entire rear camera module.

In a newly shared teaser video, the ring is shown working in a way that closely resembles the tactile control you’d expect from traditional cameras. While Xiaomi hasn’t fully confirmed the feature set yet, well-known leaker Digital Chat Station suggests the rotary ring is not just decorative and could provide real zoom control. If accurate, this could give the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica edition a more hands-on shooting experience compared to standard touch-based zoom sliders found on most phones.

The special edition also adds a more premium visual identity, including a 3D Leica engraving near the camera area, further separating it from the regular model and leaning into collector and enthusiast appeal.

On the camera hardware side, Xiaomi has previously highlighted a 200MP periscope telephoto camera for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Based on the sample shots the company has shared, the sensor appears aimed at delivering detail-rich portraits along with crisp long-range zoom photography—two areas where flagship buyers increasingly expect top-tier performance.

More official details may arrive soon as Xiaomi closes in on launch. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be unveiled in China on December 25, 2025, and if the teasers are any indication, Xiaomi is positioning this device as a serious option for anyone who wants a smartphone that feels closer to a real camera.
