Xiaomi may finally introduce its first-ever in-house smartphone SoC next year. According to a new leak, the SoC will be produced using TSMC’s N4P node and is expected to have performance akin to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is nearly three generations old.
The development of this proprietary chip marks a significant comeback for Xiaomi’s SoC department, which was revitalized in 2021 after being abandoned the previous year. Leaker Yogesh Brar has shared some initial details about the chip, though specific information about its CPU and GPU is still missing.
The new SoC is set to debut next year, although it’s uncertain if it will feature in a flagship device like the Xiaomi 15. Its performance level suggests it may not be reserved for top-tier models. Additionally, the chip will incorporate a 5G modem from UNISOC, likely the same one used in the recently launched T760 SoC.
While the specific architecture details are not provided, Xiaomi’s access to Arm IP means it could use configurations like Cortex-X4, Cortex-A720, or Cortex-A520 for the CPU. The GPU choice remains speculative but will probably also be sourced from Arm, at least for the initial version.
