Xiaomi has recently expanded its lineup of home security solutions with the launch of the Xiaomi CW500, an outdoor security camera equipped with advanced features. This new device, offering 3K image resolution and 360° rotation capabilities, is available for consumers in China.
The CW500 is designed to provide homeowners with high-quality surveillance, boasting a 6MP camera paired with an f/1.6 aperture. This enables the device to capture images at a 3K resolution (2,880 x 1,660 pixels) and offers a broad field of view with its 147° angle range. The high dynamic range (HDR) capability ensures the video footage remains clear and detailed even with varying lighting conditions.
What sets the CW500 apart is its ability to pan 360° horizontally and tilt 150° vertically, providing expansive coverage of the surrounding area. Enhanced night vision is supported by the integration of infrared and white lights, allowing for full-color video capture even in low-light settings. Users can stream the video feed and receive instant notifications directly through the Mijia App or when paired with compatible smart home devices, such as the Xiaomi Smart Home Screen 10.
The smart camera leverages AI technology for accurate human and vehicle detection. Homeowners can activate sound and light alarms through the CW500 to help deter any unwanted visitors. Additionally, the device includes two-way communication enabled by the onboard speaker and microphone, as well as support for dual-band Wi-Fi 6 with high-gain antennae for reliable connectivity.
Constructed with a durable white plastic casing and an IP66 dust- and waterproof rating, the Xiaomi CW500 is well-suited for the outdoors. It can operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -30°C to 60°C, ensuring continuous security monitoring across different climates.
Chinese consumers can purchase the Xiaomi CW500 for 299 yuan, which roughly converts to $42 or €38. With other Xiaomi outdoor security cameras like the AW300 available in various international markets, it will be interesting to see if the company plans to release the CW500 outside China. In markets such as the UK, the Netherlands, or Germany, Xiaomi has already seen success with similar products, offering residents an affordable option to protect their homes.
