Roblox’s developer community celebrated a milestone financial achievement last year as they collectively earned a staggering $741 million according to official reports. This marked a significant increase of 19 percent from the previous year’s $623.9 million. The platform, which has been enabling developers to craft diverse gaming experiences since 2006, rewards them when players spend Robux, Roblox’s virtual currency, within their games. The current conversion rate stands at $0.0035 per Robux.
The company’s report highlighted that nearly 100 games each amassed over $1 million in revenue, while nine games broke the ceiling with earnings of at least $10 million. From the 12,000 developers who converted their Robux into real-world currency, approximately 3,500 raked in more than $10,000 and 750 surpassed the $100,000 mark.
Roblox has evolved from its early days when the games were predominantly developed by enthusiast youngsters. Now, with a demographic where more than half of its players are under the age of 16, professional game studios are increasingly catering to its audience. Gamefam Studios, based in Los Angeles, secured $25 million in funding last year to develop games exclusively for Roblox.
The platform’s strong performance is underpinned by its daily active user count, nearly 68 million, and a total of $3.5 billion in bookings last year.
Roblox offers a multiplatform experience, available on various devices including Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, and more, making it widely accessible to gamers around the globe.
