Xiaomi 17 Ultra Spotted in the Wild as Launch Nears

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is just days away from its official debut in China, and early hands-on photos have already given fans a clear look at what Xiaomi’s next camera-centric flagship will bring to the table.

Shared online ahead of launch, the real-world images suggest Xiaomi is sticking closely to a familiar Ultra design formula. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra keeps the brand’s long-running look that dates back to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, highlighted by a large circular camera module on the back. That choice also sets it apart from the Xiaomi 17 Pro models, which take a different approach with a camera “plateau” style layout and a rear display.

At first glance, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may remind people of last year’s Ultra model, and even some competing camera-focused flagships, but there are a couple of notable visual tweaks. The round camera housing appears slightly smaller than what was seen on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. One likely reason is a change in the camera hardware itself: this time, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to feature one fewer rear camera.

Instead of the dual telephoto (dual-zoom) arrangement used on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, current reports point to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra using a single telephoto camera with a significantly larger sensor. That’s an interesting shift for mobile photography fans, since a larger telephoto sensor can potentially improve zoom image quality, low-light performance, and detail—depending on Xiaomi’s tuning and lens choices.

On the front, rumors indicate Xiaomi is moving to a completely flat display while still keeping rounded edges on the phone’s body, a combination many users prefer for both viewing and in-hand comfort.

There is one downside for buyers already being discussed: Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will launch at a higher price than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. With the official China launch happening this week, the full specs, camera details, and final pricing should be confirmed very soon.
