X Moves U.S. Creator Payouts to X Money With Instant Access to Earnings
X is changing how creators in the United States get paid. The platform announced that all U.S. payouts for its creator monetization programs will now be processed through X Money, the company’s built-in payments service.
The change applies to earnings from the Original Content Rewards Program as well as paid creator subscriptions. According to X, creators who already use X Money do not need to take any action. Their next payout will automatically be sent through the service. Those who have not yet set up X Money will need to open the payments feature in the app and activate it to receive future earnings.
The biggest benefit for creators is speed. X says payouts through X Money will be available as soon as they are sent, removing the delays that previously came with the platform’s older payment system. In the past, creator earnings were typically processed every two weeks, and creators needed to reach a minimum payout amount of $30 before receiving their money.
For creators who rely on X income as part of their business, instant access could make the platform more appealing. Faster payouts can help with cash flow, especially for independent creators, influencers, journalists, video makers, and subscription-based accounts that depend on regular earnings.
However, the announcement suggests that X Money may now be the only payout option for U.S. creators. That means creators who preferred the previous system may have to switch to X Money in order to continue receiving payments from the platform. X has not yet fully clarified whether any alternative payout methods will remain available.
This update comes as X continues reshaping its creator monetization strategy. The company is preparing to retire its Creator Revenue Sharing Program on September 7 after closing it to new participants last month. Creators are instead being moved toward the Original Content Rewards Program, which is designed to place more value on original posts and content created directly for the platform.
X Money is part of Elon Musk’s broader goal of turning X into an “everything app” that combines social networking, content, messaging, payments, and financial tools in one place. The service includes features such as instant payments, a bank card with 3% cashback, free ATM withdrawals, and digital banking-style services.
Although X Money offers financial features, it is not itself a bank. User accounts are held through Cross River Bank, which is FDIC-insured.
X also said that creator payouts will count toward direct deposit requirements for X Money users who want access to higher annual percentage yield rates. At the moment, X Premium users can receive a boosted 6% rate, while the standard rate is listed at 4%.
Tax reporting will also be handled through the system. X says individuals who receive creator payouts will be issued a 1099-NEC form. For creators operating as LLCs, the platform will collect W-9 information to make sure tax forms are accurate.
The move signals that X is becoming more aggressive in tying creator monetization to its financial services. By routing payouts through X Money, the company is not only simplifying payments but also encouraging more creators to use its expanding money platform. For U.S. creators, the shift could mean faster access to earnings, but also less flexibility in how they choose to get paid.
