Vivo Shakes Up the Budget Market With a Massive 7,200mAh Battery Phone

Vivo has expanded its popular Y-series lineup with the launch of the Vivo Y6 5G, a new budget-friendly smartphone that puts a big emphasis on battery life, durability, and a fast-refresh display. Arriving soon after the Vivo Y6t, this model also runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, aiming to deliver reliable everyday performance with 5G connectivity at an affordable price.

Despite packing a massive battery, the Vivo Y6 5G keeps a relatively slim profile at 8.39 mm and weighs about 219 grams. Vivo is offering the phone with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage, though there’s no option to expand storage via a memory card—something to keep in mind if you store lots of videos, photos, or offline files.

On the front, the Vivo Y6 5G features a 6.57-inch LCD display with a 1570 x 720 resolution. While it isn’t a full-HD panel, it does bring two big perks many shoppers look for in this price range: a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, which should help with visibility in brighter environments.

For cameras, Vivo keeps things straightforward. The rear uses a single 50 MP main camera, and the front houses an 8 MP camera for selfies and video calls. This simple setup targets users who want a dependable main shooter without paying extra for secondary lenses they may rarely use.

Software is handled by OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 right out of the box. However, Vivo hasn’t shared any official details about long-term software update support, so buyers who prioritize guaranteed updates may want to consider that before purchasing.

The standout feature is clearly the battery: a huge 7,200 mAh capacity designed for extended screen time and fewer charging stops. When you do need to plug in, the phone supports 44W wired charging to help top up faster than typical entry-level devices.

Additional features round out the package nicely for the money, including a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster for controlling appliances, and high-level durability with both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.

The Vivo Y6 5G comes in silver, gold, and black. Pricing in China starts at CNY 1,799 (around $263) for the 8 GB + 128 GB version. The 8 GB + 256 GB model costs CNY 1,999 (around $292), while the top 12 GB + 256 GB variant is priced at CNY 2,199 (around $322). The phone is already available to buy in China through Vivo’s online store, and there’s currently no official confirmation on international availability.
