Valve has released a significant update to its SteamOS software, version 3.5.17, which comes with a host of improvements aimed at refining the gaming experience on both the Steam Deck and the Steam Deck OLED variants.
The latest software patch is a culmination of extensive testing throughout the preceding month, with previous versions 3.5.14, 3.5.15, and 3.5.16 paving the way for the stable release of SteamOS 3.5.17. This new version incorporates a multitude of changes, specifically bringing a total of ten enhancements that bolster system performance.
One of the critical updates addresses an issue where closing a game in an ‘unclean way’ could cause a CPU core to remain at full usage, a problem that users of both the standard Steam Deck and the OLED model will no longer have to contend with. Additionally, the updated operating system includes firmware updates – version 120 for the standard Steam Deck and version 107 for the OLED model – aimed at ironing out a range of USB compatibility problems, further enhancing the devices’ connectivity.
Alongside SteamOS 3.5.17, Valve has also launched a stable Client Update applicable to both the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED. This fresh client-side update remedies a persistent issue where users were greeted with a ‘verifying installation’ notification at every system boot-up. It also tackles a frustrating bug that resulted in an endless loading animation when attempting to stream games remotely from another PC to the Steam Deck.
The comprehensive changelog details all the tweaks and changes included in the SteamOS 3.5.17 update, reflecting Valve’s ongoing commitment to providing a smooth and seamless gaming experience for Steam Deck users.
