Vaio is refreshing its SX14-R ultralight lineup with a new model aimed at people who want premium performance in a travel-friendly body. The updated Vaio SX14-R (VJS4R2) brings Intel Ultra Series 3 processors, faster storage options, and upgraded on-device AI capabilities, all while keeping the signature carbon fiber build and a weight that can stay under 1 kg depending on configuration.
Launching first in Japan, the new 14-inch SX14-R is offered in five finishes: Fine Black, Urban Bronze, Fine Red, Bright Silver, and Deep Emerald. Orders are scheduled with deliveries starting May 22, 2026, and pricing begins at 327,800 yen (around $2,050), positioning it firmly in the high-end ultralight laptop category.
The biggest performance jump comes from the move to Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips. Buyers can choose between the Intel Core Ultra 7 356H and the Intel Core Ultra 5 325. Vaio says CPU performance is up to 123% higher than the previous generation, and the integrated NPU boosts AI throughput to roughly 47 to 50 TOPS. That added AI muscle helps the SX14-R qualify as a Copilot+ PC, enabling expanded Windows 11 AI features designed to run directly on the laptop.
Memory and storage options are also geared toward power users. Configurations include 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, paired with PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD choices ranging from 256 GB up to 2 TB. For anyone balancing large project files, creative workloads, or business travel needs, these specs make the SX14-R feel less like a compromise and more like a full-strength productivity machine in a lightweight shell.
Display choices give buyers two distinct directions. There’s a 16:10 1,920×1,200 anti-glare panel aimed at everyday work and long sessions under harsh lighting, and a sharper 2,560×1,600 glossy option with optional pen support for users who want a more vivid look and added input flexibility. The lid can also open 180 degrees, a practical touch for collaboration, tight spaces, or viewing comfort.
Vaio also tuned the input experience by revising the keyboard and touchpad, with a focus on quieter typing and clicking—an upgrade that matters in meetings, shared workspaces, and late-night use.
Despite the ultralight design, port selection remains robust. The SX14-R includes one HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports, and two USB 3.2 ports that support Thunderbolt 4, Power Delivery, and DisplayPort 2.1. Connectivity covers both wired Ethernet and modern wireless standards, including Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. There’s also optional 5G support via nanoSIM/eSIM for users who need reliable mobile data without tethering.
For remote work and security, the laptop includes a 9.2 MP webcam with Windows Hello facial recognition, plus an integrated fingerprint reader in the power button for fast sign-ins. Audio is designed for calls and media, featuring Dolby Atmos stereo speakers and triple microphones with AI noise cancellation to help voices come through clearly in busy environments.
Battery life will vary by configuration, particularly depending on whether you choose the standard battery or the high-capacity option. Vaio rates video playback at 11.0 to 20.5 hours under the JEITA 3.0 standard. Weight also depends on the build, ranging from about 985 g up to 1.257 kg.
With this update, the Vaio SX14-R (VJS4R2) targets users who want a premium ultralight laptop without giving up modern ports, strong Windows 11 AI features, high-end memory and SSD options, and a durable carbon fiber chassis that’s built for daily travel.
