Mcdodo Unveils a 240W USB-C Cable With a Touchscreen Display
Mcdodo is drawing attention with a new USB-C charging cable that looks more like a smart accessory than a standard cable. Shown at IFA 2026, the company’s upcoming 240W USB-C to USB-C Cable with TFT Screen Display is designed for high-power charging while giving users real-time information directly on the cable.
The standout feature is its built-in touchscreen display. Instead of placing the screen inside the USB-C connector, Mcdodo has positioned it along the cable itself. This gives the display more room to show useful charging data, including voltage, current, and total wattage. For users who regularly charge laptops, tablets, handheld gaming devices, smartphones, or power banks, this could make it easier to monitor charging performance at a glance.
The cable supports USB Power Delivery up to 240W, which is currently the maximum power level for USB-C PD charging. That means it should be capable of handling demanding devices such as high-performance laptops, provided the charger and device also support the required power output.
During a brief hands-on look, the touchscreen area appeared to support swipe gestures, allowing users to move through different display modes. This could make the cable more practical than basic USB-C cables with small built-in wattage meters, especially for users who like to track charging behavior in more detail.
However, the display may not be ideal in every environment. Under very bright exhibition lighting, the screen was difficult to read, suggesting it may perform better indoors or in normal room lighting. Official product images show a clearer view of the interface, but real-world visibility will likely depend on surrounding light conditions.
While the cable is clearly focused on charging, it may not be the best choice for high-speed data transfer. Mcdodo has not listed a specific transfer speed, which usually means buyers should not expect advanced data performance. Anyone looking for a cable for external SSDs, docking stations, or fast file transfers may want to check the specifications carefully before buying.
Another point worth noting is certification. A USB-C cable with a built-in display and touchscreen is unlikely to carry official USB-IF certification. That does not automatically mean it will perform poorly, but users who prioritize certified accessories for sensitive or expensive hardware may want to keep this in mind.
Mcdodo also promoted the product with the name “AI Smartcable” at its booth. However, no clear artificial intelligence feature was demonstrated. The branding appears to be aimed more at retail marketing than at describing a real AI-powered function. Based on what was shown, the cable’s smart features are mainly related to charging data, display controls, and real-time monitoring.
The new Mcdodo 240W USB-C touchscreen cable is expected to launch in October. The company has not confirmed a final retail price, but the quoted wholesale price is $7.70. Based on that figure, the cable could arrive in stores for around $20 to $30.
If priced competitively, this USB-C charging cable could appeal to tech enthusiasts, frequent travelers, laptop users, and anyone who wants a more informative charging setup.
