Back in my day, you’d be lucky if a branded storage solution consisted of more than just a tiny decal slapped onto the side. Take my Outsiders-themed external drive for my PlayStation 5’s extra storage; it was simply a silk-screened logo on a Western Digital WD_Black P10 drive. For many gamers, matching a themed hard drive to their setup’s aesthetic or supporting their favorite character often meant sacrificing performance for style. However, Seagate is changing the game with their array of Limited Edition HDDs and SSDs. Their latest venture is a thrilling collaboration with miHoYo for Genshin Impact, and I got a sneak peek before taking it on the road to GDC next week.
We’re diving into an unboxing experience with Seagate’s new Limited Edition Gaming SSD featuring one of Genshin Impact’s early Electro Units: Cyno. This stylish, pocket-sized 1TB external drive measures just under 100x50x11mm, making it incredibly convenient to slip into my daily essentials for capturing footage or grabbing recordings from a capture station.
The eye-catching purple design, inspired by Cyno, stands out amidst the sea of packages from other gaming gear on my office shelves. But, of course, the real fun begins when you crack open the box to start storing your prized content. The unit is adorned with intricate runic designs, while the logo on the underside pays homage to Cyno’s Anubis motif. Like Seagate’s Starfield line, this drive features a striking LED ring around its bottom, albeit in a simple purple hue. Additionally, a small status LED is located on the opposite end of the USB Type-C 3.2 port.
Weighing just 65 grams, this Genshin Impact-themed drive can easily be tossed into a bag without adding any weighty burden. A thumb drive used to be my go-to for transferring screenshots and video footage from my PlayStation 5 for reviews. But, with external SSDs like this becoming more prevalent and lightweight, I’ve completely changed my approach. Seagate assures us that the drive comes with a three-year warranty and Rescue Data Recovery Services, providing peace of mind should any data transfers go awry.
The Seagate Genshin Impact Limited Edition SSD is more than just a storage solution; it’s a collector’s item priced at $139.99, available exclusively through their online store. Although it sits at a higher price point compared to other themed drives, it’s a unique piece that fans of Genshin Impact, particularly those who admire Cyno, would likely cherish for its representation and style in their collection.
