Apple has just unveiled the first public beta of its latest mobile operating system, iOS 26, complete with an innovative “Liquid Glass” user interface and enhanced AI capabilities. This release offers early adopters a chance to explore Apple’s cutting-edge software before it becomes widely available in the fall.
The update brings the most significant visual overhaul since iOS 7, introducing the “Liquid Glass” design. This new look delivers a sleek, transparent, glass-like feel to various interface elements, including buttons, screens, and app navigation. It’s seamlessly integrated across key apps like Phone, Camera, Safari, and Music, as well as in notifications, the Lock Screen, Control Center, and the Home Screen.
The redesigned Lock Screen now boasts a 3D photo effect and dynamic clock, with updated app icons that users can also set to be clear.
On the AI front, iOS 26 introduces real-time live translation for conversations, AI-powered shortcuts, poll suggestions in Messages, and enhanced Visual Intelligence for image searches during browsing.
The Liquid Glass design also extends to other software versions like iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, and watchOS 26. Here’s a quick look at the new features:
iOS 26 introduces a dedicated gaming app that acts as a centralized hub for discovering and playing games. The Phone app now features Call Screening, prompting unknown callers to state their name and purpose before you pick up. Hold Assist notifies users when hold music ends, indicating a live agent is available. Plus, Messages and FaceTime offer real-time translations, and Messages now includes AI-generated poll suggestions.
Additional updates include enhancements to Genmoji, Image Playground, Camera, Photos, Maps, and customizable alarm snooze times.
iPadOS 26 delivers a more Mac-like experience, bringing the Preview app from macOS for PDF annotations and a new windowing system to manage web pages and apps more efficiently.
macOS Tahoe 26 features upgrades to Spotlight, using AI to predict user searches and suggest actions. Live Activities sync with iPhones, providing easy access to recent calls and contacts.
watchOS 26 introduces Workout Buddy, an AI-driven fitness assistant offering motivation and progress updates during workouts. The Workout app now includes Autoplay Media, which queues music, podcasts, and audiobooks, while Apple Music offers personalized playlists based on workout habits.
Finally, tvOS 26 makes profile switching on Apple TV seamless, enhancing user experience by allowing immediate access to personalized content. Apple Music now transforms your iPhone into a microphone for sing-alongs on TV, with support for multiple connections for collaborative fun. New Contact Posters for FaceTime add a personal touch, and Live Captions now support translations in languages like French, German, and Spanish.
With these updates, Apple continues to push the boundaries of innovation, ensuring an exciting experience across all its devices.
