The latest reveal from a recent listing offers an intriguing glimpse into Samsung’s future developments. The listing references ‘Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Full Android on S5E8865 ERD,’ which connects directly to the Exynos 1680, the anticipated processor for the upcoming Galaxy A57.
This processor boasts 8 CPU cores distributed across three clusters, maintaining the architecture of its predecessor. However, it’s worth noting that the CPU clock speeds, particularly in all clusters except for Cluster 2, appear significantly lower than those found in the prior Exynos 1580 model.
Interestingly, the Exynos 1680 features the new Xclipse 550 GPU. Although this GPU has only 2 Compute Units (CUs), compared to the previous model’s four, performance-wise, it nearly matches the Xclipse 540 in OpenCL benchmarks.
This information leads to speculation that we might be looking at a prototype for the Galaxy A57 or a development board. Samsung’s past release patterns suggest that there might not be an imminent launch, but the excitement around this potential device continues to build. Keep an eye out for more developments as Samsung refines its next-generation technology.
